We Love Loving!

Brinley's favorite holiday is Valentine's day so we  kind of wanted to make a big deal out of it.  We made Valentines for all of the kids in her class.

 She even had Valentines hair.

And of course, Dad brought us flowers.

Brinley requested salmon for dinner and per Dustin's request I made a heart shaped confetti cake.

I should have known better than to put a cake in front of our littlest Valentine.

Looks like she like confetti cake too.

Dustin and I went out that weekend to one of our favorite restaurants, Elements.   It was a good Valentines.  I love being able to celebrate the people I love.

Real Food!

We started London on "real" food a couple of weeks ago.  Brinley insisted on feeding her, she is such a great big sister!  Aren't they cute?  London loves her rice cereal.

One of the many reasons I love my husband

So... yesterday I put a dress on and asked my Dustin to help me with the zipper. Needless to say the zipper broke.   I am still carrying a few extra pounds of baby weight so although that may be partly to blame, he pulled really hard and  ripped the entire zipper off of my dress.  At first we laughed because he was holding the zipper in his hand then I was kind of disappointed because no matter how much I love an item of clothing, I will never fix a zipper.

"Uh, you owe me a new dress!"
"Go buy a new dress, I don't care."
"No, you owe me a dress with your own money, not our money"

So, I proceeded to pout about it a little, but I didn't really care and Brinley was just excited to wear it as a dress up. I completely forgot about it until I opened my purse this morning and found this...

I should mention that we really don't allow ourselves much "mine" and "yours" money and what he does have he has been saving for a gun he really wants.  What a great guy!

Random, but true

Just a few random things that are going on in our lives right now... hum, let's see... I think I'm over the whole wanting another baby thing.  Not forever, just for now.  Not that I don't "want" one, but it just doesn't make me sad that my husband thinks I'm absolutely CRAZY for wanting one.  I think that if I had a different life maybe it would be good, but with this life that I do have we are good where we are at.  And speaking of Lun, she's a doll!  She's growing way too fast!  I still think of her as a newborn.

Brinley's a doll too!  I don't know if it's winter or the baby or what, but that girl is full of energy.  We have to try really hard to be patient with her because in all honesty, it's kind of annoying sometimes.  I should take that back because I really am grateful to have such a beautiful, healthy little girl that is so full of life.  Oh and she has/had a boyfriend.  I think Dustin and I talked her out of it.  It's her best friend.  He told her he would play on the playground with her at school if she would be his girlfriend.  At first I didn't think she knew what that meant so I asked her and she said, "it means we are in love."  That scared me.  So we talked and I think they are just friends now.  Seriously, she's 4!  Oh, and she is now a level 2 gymnast.  We are proud of the little stinker.

Work is crazy!  I'm way busier that I want to be and I hate that my job is requiring some extra time on my part because that means less family time, but I really do have a great job.  Yes, there I days I wish they would just fire me, but my job really is a blessing and I know that things will slow down when rates go up.  The other day I worked on a mortgage with a 2.875 interest rate!  That's crazy!  Once all of this madness is over no one will ever need to refinance their mortgage ever again.  Who knows, maybe in that life I will have a dozen of kids and be a soccer Mom.

Food.  I love food! And if you know me, you know I'm kind of a food snob. I study food, read about food, watch food documentaries... a lot.  Can't think too much about food, because what people call food that really isn't food drives me CRAZY!  And yes, I do like some of that non food too much.   I hate to cook for people.  Partly because I just do and partly because I never know what to cook.  We don't eat the traditional American Diet at all and when I cook for people I feel like I have to cook "normal" food and I hate doing that.  I cooked for Dustin's family when they were all here for the funeral and I made quinoa.  Most of them hadn't heard of it and none of them had tried it before.  Not sure if they liked it.    At the beginning of the year we bought  one  of these

I have wanted it for so long.  It's so amazing!  I love it and use it almost everyday.  We drink green smoothies everyday and speaking of green smoothies, I love this book

My friend Jan and I even went to one of Robyn Openshaw (the author)'s classes.  Oh, and on the way to the class we stopped at Honeyville Farms.  I can't believe I have never been there before.

Since we are talking about food we might as well talk about exercise.  I love the boot camp I am doing at my gym right now.  It's nothing I couldn't do myself, but I just wasn't.  It's really fun to workout in a group sometimes.  I always meet really great people.  And, I have been trying to talk them into a boxing class taught by Christian.  We do boxing in boot camp and I've taken boxing before, but never by anyone that actually "knows" how to box.  Christian is and excellent boxer and Dustin and I loved the boot camp he used to teach (we used to go for our date).  They actually listened to me.  He said they are probably going to start one up.  So excited to take a class from someone that actually knows what he's doing.

Money... Dustin and I have always been pretty smart with our money regardless of how much or how little we have.  Dustin likes to study it.  He reads financial books and got me hooked on Dave Ramsey. Not that we are on his plan, I still haven't read his book, but I love to listen to him. One thing we have never done before is spend cash.  We now go to the grocery store with our weekly grocery budget in cash.  It's a simplifies my life.  I like it.

My husband.  I would dare say our relationship is better than it has ever been.  Interesting how we are constantly learning and growing in this life.  How we are humbled and become better people.  Interesting how relationships have seasons.  And speaking of seasons, I love this...

FOUR SEASONS OF A TREE

There was a man who had four sons. He sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and
look at a pear tree that was a great distance away. The first son went in
the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest
son in the fall.

When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe
what they had seen. The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and
twisted. The second son said no--it was covered with green buds and full
of promise. The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms
that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful
thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all of them; he said
it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they
had each seen but Only one season in the tree's life. He told them that you
cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence
of who they are--and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life--
can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are complete.

If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring,
the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall. Don't let the pain
of one season destroy the joy of all the rest. Don't judge life by one
difficult season. Persevere throughout the difficult patches and better
times are sure to come some time or later.

Mom's cancer... this is something I don't talk about a lot on here.   Or really at all.  That's because it's not only really personal to me, but to her also and I want to be respectful of that.  That being said, I spend a portion of every single day being sad.  Every single day I think about her.  A friend of mine actually said to me, "I wish it was my Mom and not yours."  sometimes I wish it was someone else's mom too.  It's not fair.  I feel like my children are being robbed out of a Grandma.  She's still a really great Grandma, but her energy can only be pulled in so many directions.  The other day I got a call from my Mom, it was Valentines day and I just spent so much time wishing I could take some of that from her.  If even just for one day.  It humbles me.  I can't imagine living in a body that did not allow me to do all that I want to do.  I wished so much that I could be sick and puking and in pain and tired for her so that she could even just have one day of health back, one day to do all that she wanted to do.  I felt guilty preparing dinner for my family, knowing that she probably would not even be able to eat that night.  I don't understand life, but I believe that things happen for a reason.  And as I thought about my poor Mom and her struggles in life I couldn't help but think of my Savior. I thought of him in the Garden of Gethsemane, he knew every struggle we would go through in this life and he WANTED to take some of that from us.  I believe as he was going through those things he saw my face and he saw your face.  When he was feeling what it felt like to have a Mom diagnosed with stage four breast cancer he saw my face.  And when he was feeling what it felt like to have stage four breast cancer he saw hers and he wanted to take some of that pain from us.  This is just and example.  This isn't the only hard thing I have had to deal with in life, it's just what I am dealing with right now.  I have been through a lot in this life.  We all have.  I'm just thankful we don't have to go through it alone.

And... my house is a complete mess, has been for two weeks.  Now you know everything about me.

Cute Girls

When London was born I didn't think she looked anything like Brinley.  It's interesting to hear people's comments because some say our girls look just like me, some say they look just like Dustin, some say they look nothing like each other, some say London looks just like Brinley.  To me they have just looked like themselves, but I have been starting to see a shocking resemblance between the two of them so I looked back at some of Brinley's baby pictures and think they most defiantly look like sisters.  What do you think?

Sk8er

Brinley has wanted to go roller skating so we took her just after Christmas.  We aren't very good teachers and it was kind of frustrating for her especially when there is a gigantic playground in site.
So... we let her play on that instead and she was much happier.
And cute Lunnie just slept through the whole thing.

Another Goodbye

Last Friday Dustin’s Grandpa died. We have lost quite a few people that we love over the past few years and although it’s always hard to lose someone you love Dustin’s Grandparents have been more like parents to him. They ARE his family and have played a huge roll in his life. I’m sad for Dustin and I’m sad that London won’t remember him. In conversations about having children, my husband always made it clear that he wanted our children to know our grandparents. Just a week earlier we were at their house and we are so thankful that our last memories of him were of him joking around with Brinley. Brinley was dancing around and kept stepping on Grandpa’s feet and we were telling her to watch what she was doing and Grandpa said, “Yeah or I’m going to jump on your feet” and for those of you that know Brinley this won’t be a shocker, but her reply was, “You can’t even walk.” He just laughed.

Grandpa has struggled with a body that hasn’t really worked for him for quite some time, but just a few days prior to his death things got pretty bad. I was so touched by this line Kathryn wrote in an email she sent out to all of the family. “It was a bad night last night! He didn't seem to know what was the matter with him, but when I later asked what I could do for him, he said I could "help him breath". I took off my nightly oxygen and put it on him, but it didn't seem to make a difference.” What an example of love. “I took off my nightly oxygen mask and put it on him.” I’m so thankful that my husband grew up with this kind of example and I’m so thankful for the example they have been to me in the past 10 years of my life.

Mike asked Doyle to give Jeremy a hug. There is no doubt in my mind that that actually took place.

I feel so incredibly blessed to be a part of this amazing family.

Goodbye Grandpa.  And thanks for playing a huge roll in making my husband who he is today.

Merry!?

Christmas morning is so magical! I just love it! I think back to when I was a kid and those memories mean so much to me. I can’t imagine how hard my Dad must have worked to provide such a great Christmas for 5 kids year after year and all of the fun traditions my Mom stuck to.

We decided to do Christmas a little bit more simple this year. It was nice. And the truth is, it worked out great because Brinley is really humble. In fact, she said her favorite holiday is Valentine’s day because her Dad buys her flowers. This year for Christmas she asked for slippers and an umbrella. Actually, she asked for an umbrella for Christmas and slippers for her birthday (6 months from now). I told her she could ask for them both for Christmas. Everyone kept asking her what she wanted for Christmas and that’s all she could come up with, eventually she decided that it would be nice to have a magnifying glass too. I know her list won’t always come to a whopping total of $10, but for now it’s sweet. She got a letter from Santa and in the letter it said that he was working on a surprise for her and her response was, “Just one Mom? That’s ok because I don’t really need anything.”

When I grew up I had both sets of Grandparents and two Great Grandmas. My Great Grandma Eva passed away before I had the chance to meet her, My Great Grandma Robison died shortly after Dustin’s brother, Jeremy died. My Grandpa Clark died just before Christmas 4 years ago, My Grandpa Delbert died three years ago on Thanksgiving day and my Grandma Clark just died on Christmas day. Although death is always hard, nothing makes me more thankful for my children. I’m grateful that life is a circle. I can’t even imagine going through life and having to feel the sorrow of burring your loved ones without ever experiencing the utmost amount of joy when holding your newborn baby and watching them grow.

I don’t really have any super sweet one on one memories about my Grandma, but I have so many that make me laugh and put a smile on my face. You see, my Grandpa homesteaded over 1000 acres, he built a ranch and farmed a large portion of the land. I would dare say a huge amount of my childhood memories took place at the ranch. I could go on and on and on, but I remember silly things about my grandparents like feeding the pigs with my Grandpa. I can honestly still picture myself following him with his pail of slop, his overalls, his bent over back and the way he slightly drug his feet in the dirt when he walked. The ranch didn’t have electricity or a bathroom. There was just an outhouse. Looking back, I’m so glad I got to experience this and I’m so sad that my kids won’t. I said all of the memories of my Grandma make me laugh and here’s a prime example. As I mentioned above, the ranch didn’t have a bathroom and what do you think you do with a house full of little kids when they need to go to the bathroom at night? Well, you go in a bucket. If we had to go to the bathroom my Grandma would shine a flashlight that was really more like a spotlight right in our eyes and say, “Are you alright?” and then my Grandpa would say, “leave em alone.” I laugh about all of these things, but the truth is I’ve learned a very very valuable lesson from my Grandparents. When I have been hurt, when I have been used or when I have been taken advantage of and  I’m struggling with forgiveness I always think of my Grandma and Grandpa Clark I think of their example and somehow I struggle a little bit less.

Dear Lunnie,

Dear Lunnie,

I would have never thought that I could have a newborn baby and at the same time want another one, but I do. You make me want more. I love everything about being your Mom. I may slightly complain about you keeping me up at night, but truthfully if someone offered to take that job from me, I would not let them.

I can’t stop kissing your cheeks, honestly I can’t. I love your chubby little cheeks and your chubby little legs. My left hip bone is bruised from lugging your car seat around and resting it on my hip, but I wear those bruises with honor.

You have the cutest little voice ever! I just love to hear you giggle and talk.

You are the sweetest little baby in the whole world! The other day we had to run to the store and as always, you were happy. I was completely amazed when we got to the checkout line and the little baby in front of us began to cry. I watched your eyes fill up with tears and your lip begin to quiver. Lunnie, I’m your mother, I know your cries. I know your hungry cry, I know your tired cry and I know how you cry when you just want to be held. This cry was different and it was clear to not only me, but others in the checkout line as well that hearing this little baby cry made you sad, so you cried with her. Thanks for being such an angel in my life. I’m honored to be your Mom.

Love, Mom
