I don’t talk nearly enough about the conversations Brinley
starts. I’m either amazed by the things
she says, completely shocked by the things she says, or laughing historically
at the things she says. Most days we
have conversations I should keep track of, but I usually don’t. Today I found myself jotting down bits and
pieces of our conversations on whatever piece of scratch paper was near by and
I wanted to make record of the cute things she said today. Only Brinley (sigh)…
“Mom, why don’t my wishes ever come true?”
“What do you mean?”“I always make the same wish when I blow those little round things (dandelions) and it never comes true.”
“Well, maybe it just hasn’t come true yet.”
“Oh, well how long does it take?”
“What did you wish for?”
“I can’t tell you or it won’t come true.”
“I don’t know how long it takes, it depends on what the wish is for.”
“Well, when you were a little girl did you ever make wishes?”
“Yeah.”
“Did they come true?”
“Yeah, sometimes.”
“Well then can you tell me what you wished for when you were a little girl?”
“Humm, I don’t remember honey.”
“Well, I wonder when my wish is going to come true.”
I then proceeded to pry at what she wished for thinking maybe I could help make her wish come true, but she was too scared to tell me anything for fear that it wouldn’t come true. What a doll!
“Mom?”
“What babe?”“You know how some people only have one leg?”
“Yeah.”
“I think Heavenly Father forgot to give them their other leg. I wonder how come he forgot their other leg.”
“Oh honey, I don’t think he forgot their leg. We all just have different problems on earth and different hard things we have to go through. Some people are blind, some pleople only have one leg, some people don't have food to eat, some people don't have any money, some people loose someone they love, some people have a hard time in school.”
“That’s sad!”
“That is sad, but have you ever had anything hard to do at school or anything?”
“Yes.”
“Like what? What did you have to do at school that was hard?”
“The three leaf clover.”
“And why was that hard?”
“Because we had to do all of the letters and it was hard.”
"Yep, we all have different hard things in life. We are here to learn and to see how we will react to those hard things."
“Oh, so they are married?”
“No, they are divorced.”
“What does divorced mean?”
“It means they aren’t married anymore.”
“Oh, so that’s where the baby came from, which is Dad.”
“Yes, and Jeremy.”
And then she went on with her day.
Wish I could just follow her around with a tape recorder.
